Established in January 2002, ECHEM is a state-owned entity mandated to manage and develop Egypt's petrochemical industry, setting up strategic alliances with local producers and international shareholders.[1] ECHEM carries out its activities by implementing the national petrochemicals master plan, set by the Ministry of Petroleum,[2] which seeks to facilitate investor access, establish a technological database, and support the management of new and existing operating companies.[3]

According to the company's website, ECHEM's strategy "comprises an export oriented approach to develop Egypt's petrochemical industry and attract investments."[4]
