Marathon Oil Operations in Kenya

Marathon Oil Corporation is active in Kenya's Blocks 9 and 12A.[1] In July 2012, Marathon announced it had entered an agreement with Africa Oil, in which it would obtain a 50 percent working interest in Block 9, and a 15 working interest in Block 12A of which Tullow is the operators and further shares are also held by Marathon Oil Corp. and the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK)).[2] Marathon paid $35 million in order to acquire the stake in Block 12A according to oil and gas exploration company Simba Energy.[3] Marathon has the right to become operator of Block 9 if commercial viability is established.[4]
