Oil Fields

Iran has 40 producing oil fields (27 onshore and 13 offshore), with onshore fields comprising about 71 percent of total reserves. Of these onshore reserves, 85 percent are located in the southwestern Khuzestan Basin near the Iraqi border. As of November 2011, Iran's largest producing field was the onshore Ahvaz field, followed by the Maroun field, both located in Khuzestan province.[1]

Over 50 percent of Iran's oil reserves are confined to six supergiant fields.[1]

Gas Fields

Major natural gas fields include South Pars, which comprises over 47 percent of Iran's total gas reserves, as well as the fields North Pars, Kish, Kangan-Nar, Golshan, and Ferdowsi.[1]
